TouretteSings: The motivational speaking website of Operatic Verdi Baritone Jason Duika. Come learn about how he overcame Tourette syndrome, became an acclaimed professional Opera singer, and how your students can become more resilient too!
Jason's story:
Jason Duika is a professional Operatic Baritone, who has sung throughout the United States. He is also a motivational speaker, who overcame Tourette syndrome. Tourette is a neurological disorder characterized by physical manifestions called "tics", which include, but are not limited to distonic postures, seizures, and swearing. At the height of his case, he had thousands of these...in one day...
Despite this epic struggle, Jason was emboldened by a deep belief that he had a destiny... Always loving to sing, ever since he was 3, Jason would have a respite from his terrible "tics" when he sang. As a teenager, he was asked to sing Oh Holy Night at his high schools Christmas concert. He trembled, but he did it! The audience gave him a standing ovation. And thus was born a career, and a belief he had something to say with his voice, but especially his singing... TouretteSings was born out of that belief.
Jason is now a professional Opera Singer, a Verdi baritone, ...but Jason also wishes to share his story with the world to help empower them!!
He hopes to bring a message of tolerance, and resilience to a world in need of it! With the pandemic having wreaked havoc on our health, both mental, and physical, one of the most important skills that students can have as they enter the world is resilience. The takeaways of this talk will be:
1.) Learning how to achieve Resilience.
2.) Learning how to practice Tolerance.
3.) Learning how to practice resilience and tolerance to achieve Acceptance.
Your attendees will come away knowing more about how a struggle can strengthen their resolve, open their minds, and allow them to achieve a more tolerant, compassionate life.
Powerful testimonial by Superintendent of Pinckney Schools:
“Jason's anti-bullying message that focused on the power of kindness, is both a powerful and personal message as Jason shared his struggles with severe tics that are caused by his Tourette Syndrome… His message today was honest, sincere and from the heart and our students responded in true Pirate fashion as they listened intently with respect, appreciation and empathy for the life lesson Jason shared. …One of the most powerful moments came when four of our students came up on stage and shared some of their own personal struggles in school and even shared openly about their own specific challenges with things such as Asperger's syndrome, autism and anxiety. …The assembly ended with Jason performing an Opera selection, which was special as I am sure it was the first time for many (if not all) of our students to see a live opera performance.”
